U.S. Army Paratrooper assigned to the Dog Company,1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, fires with a M240B machine gun from a Humvee as part of Exercise Eagle Sokol 21 at Pocek Range in Postonja, Slovenia, Mar. 9, 2021 under Covid-19 prevention conditions. Exercise Eagle Sokol is a bilateral training exercise with the Slovenian Armed Forces focused on the rapid deployment and assembly of forces and team cohesion with weapon systems tactics and procedures. Exercises such as this build a foundation of teamwork and readiness between NATO allies. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army Contingency Response Force in Europe, capable of projecting ready forces anywhere in the U.S. European, Africa or Central Commands‘ areas of responsibility. A Fort McCoy Cold-Weather Operations Course (CWOC) Class 21-03 student participates in cold-water immersion training Feb. 5, 2021, at Big Sandy Lake on South Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. CWOC students are trained on a variety of cold-weather subjects, including snowshoe training and skiing as well as how to use ahkio sleds and other gear. Training also focuses on terrain and weather analysis, risk management, cold-weather clothing, developing winter fighting positions in the field, camouflage and concealment, and numerous other areas that are important to know in order to survive and operate in a cold-weather environment.
