U.S. Navy corpsmen with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct whole blood transfusions while participating in a Valkyrie training aboard Marine Corps base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Nov. 22, 2021. The training consisted of corpman drawing a sailor’s blood through one vein, and returning it to another vein on the opposite arm, to better understand transfusion procedures, in a controlled enviornment. The Valkyrie program was created to improve efficiency and confidence of corpsmen performing this emergency life-saving procedure on casualties within a combat environment.
